The Folkstore - ***Recommended

This is a little hole-in-the-wall store just a few blocks from the Trading Musician in Seattle’s University District. It has a friendly atmosphere and some nice guitars. I haven’t actually bought anything there or spent a lot of time there so I don’t know very much about the place, the proprietor or what they offer. But I like its vibe. Anyone care to comment further?

Although I haven’t bought any instruments from The Folkstore (yet), I did have Stuart, the owner, do some work on two mandolins, and was pleased with his work and demeanor. He’s definitely got his own opinions on what brands/types of instruments he likes (don’t we all?), but he’s very friendly and knowledgeable. He has a good selection of music books, picks, strings, etc. in addition to instruments. He’s old-school (his web site says the store is a cell-phone and e-mail free zone), but that’s a good thing. It’s a small store, and a little hard to find the first time, but there’s a loading zone right in front, so there’s almost always a parking spot available.

There was a nice write-up in the Pacific Northwest magazine (he has a link to it on his web site, but you can read it here: http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/pacificnw/2004314074_pacificportrait30.html). I highly recommend a visit.
